
Steve Slade started work at the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) in July 2006. As Vice President (Research) CAPER-ORIS, Steve oversees research and development work related to both the Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER) and the Office of Research and Information Services (ORIS).
Prior to joining the AFMC, Steve worked at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) as Senior Program Consultant in the area of Health Human Resources. While at CIHI, Steve led physician workforce research projects based on large administrative databases. Steve has also served as Janus Project Coordinator at the College of Family Physicians of Canada and as Research Program Administrator, Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto.
Together, CAPER and ORIS offer high quality, accessible and comprehensive information on the physician workforce at all stages - during undergraduate and postgraduate training and practise trends after medical training. Steve will work to ensure that AFMC research, analysis, products and services continue to meet client and stakeholder needs.
Paromita Deb-Rinker is the Project Manager for the National IMG (International Medical Graduate) Database at CAPER. She comes to AFMC with a strong scientific and academic background. She has spent over 10 years in the field of genomics research at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and more recently at the National Research Council of Canada and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. At all of these organizations, Paromita managed large human-health related projects where her responsibilities included project planning, data analysis and storage as well as supervising technicians and mentoring students. Paromita obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Western Ontario.
Hélène LeBlanc is the Executive Assistant at CAPER. She is responsible for administrative functions, accounting and coordination of research projects.
Prior to working at CAPER, Hélène accumulated 23 years of accounting and administrative experience at various private sector companies and 10 years experience as a Radiological Technologist.
Hélène grew up in Northern Ontario (Cochrane) and successfully completed a 2-year program from the School of Radiology in Sudbury, Ontario to become a certified Radiological Technologist. She also took accounting courses to augment her office management skills. Hélène is fully bilingual.
Hélène is very satisfied with her employ at CAPER and AFMC. She finds it very gratifying and always varied and enjoys an excellent work environment and contact with people all across the country.
Leslie Forward grew up in Newfoundland And Labrador and attended Memorial University of Newfoundland earning a B.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.A. in Mathematics.
Les has been employed at CAPER since 1992. His duties include data collection, implementation and programming for the CAPER database. He prepares data tables, charts and graphs for the various CAPER publications as well as for studies, surveys and individual data requests and he is well skilled at manipulating the data to answer just about any question.
Linda Bourgeois is a Research Associate for the National IMG Database Project. Her responsibilities include data collection, verification, implementation and programming for the National IMG Database. Also, she creates data tables, charts and graphs for IMG publications as well as for studies, surveys and individual data requests. Linda brings over 7 years experience from Nortel Networks in a software design role developing professional software tools, including responsibility for the full software development lifecycle. Linda has in-depth knowledge and experience in customer service, reporting systems and data bases, and is certified in Business Administration, Oracle PL/SQL Database Programming and Microsoft Database Design and Administration.
