CAPER Data Featured in the Health Workforce Canada Dashboard
Health Workforce Canada has released their latest dashboard module focused on Internationally Educated Health Professionals!
This module delivers an integrated platform that consolidates up-to-date data from across Canada and offers international comparisons, with contributions from: Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), members of Health Workforce Canada’s Dashboard Advisory Group, and publicly available information from WHO, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER), Health Canada, and Statistics Canada.

The December 2025 edition of the CAPER Fact Sheet is Now Available!
We’re pleased to announce that the latest CAPER Fact Sheet, “Practice Setting Evolution: Comparing Stability and Movement Five to Ten Years After Training”, is now live on our website.
This edition examines the career paths of the 2014 cohort between five and ten years post-training (2019–2024). The report highlights patterns of stability and movement, whether staying in place, relocating to smaller communities, or transitioning to larger urban centers.

The 2024–2025 Annual Census reveals long-term physician practice patterns, including new 10-year post-training location data by faculty and graduate type, supporting health workforce planning and policy.

The 2025 National IMG Database Report tracks International Medical Graduates (IMGs) 2, 5, and 10 years after Canadian training, highlighting their pathways, contributions, and challenges in the healthcare system.

We are excited to share that the latest CAPER Fact Sheet, “Where Are They Now? Tracking Canada’s Medical Graduates Across Time,” is now available on our website. This infographic explores the evolving journey of the 2019 cohort of Canadian Medical Graduates (CMGs) and International Medical Graduates (IMGs), comparing where they chose to practice two years after completing training (2021) versus five years later (2024). As Canada’s medical education landscape continues to shift, this snapshot reveals how community needs and graduate preferences are shaping healthcare delivery across the country.
CAPER Annual Data Collection
The Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER) Committee is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025–2026 Data Collection Cycle.
This year marks an exciting milestone as CAPER expands its reach to include all 18 Faculties of Medicine in Canada, with the addition of Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). CAPER will be working closely with each faculty to gather comprehensive data on postgraduate medical education across the country.
This annual data collection is essential to informing national health workforce planning, policy development, and research. We appreciate the continued collaboration of our partners in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of this vital dataset.
Where Do Physicians Practice After Training? CAPER Has the Data
